RE: Comment on Facebook through e-mail
tobiaseigen 19th Jan 2010
This is great news. I have always prioritized email
interaction for Kabissa, and think it's important for sites
like Facebook to also acknowledge that many people log
into their email more than they do facebook. I do worry
about UI aspects, and that people might not realize that
their replies are essentially being posted on the web. This
will depend on how well facebook designs the email
templates.

On Kabissa, we are making use of a recipe of drupal
modules to enable email replies to posts in groups (both
public and private). What we'd also like to add is the ability
to actually post new blog posts via email as well - there is a
module for this (http://drupal.org/project/mail2og) but it is
a stalled and nonfunctioning project - would be nice to
work with others to make this functionality available. It's so
much easier to send an email than log into a site and add a
post, even if both are accessed using a web browser. This is
true everywhere, not just in Africa.

Taking away "friction" to connecting and sharing is what
Facebook does well - and which we all should be
encouraging and emulating in our own online communities.

Cheers,

Tobias
