Yeah outrageous. Right. Did it ever occur to any of you that Apple did not in fact invent multi-touch? The pinch gesture has been around since 1983 and it wasn't created by Apple [see: http://marypcb.livejournal.com/393543.html and point 4 on pg 8 here: http://www.ee.udel.edu/~westerma/main.pdf]. This isn't the first time people have had fantasies about Apple inventing stuff..eg. mp3 players, and tablet computers.
I am not well informed re. patent law, however I have been told that ideas such as "pinch to zoom" can not in fact be patented in the manner that most people imagine. Apparently Apple can only patent *how* they did it (ie. the programming code), but they can not patent the idea itself (pinching to zoom).. Thus, even if Apple did invent it (which they didn't), it wouldn't mean squat anyway as any company would freely be able to create their own implementation.
OK, it is possible that what I have been told about patent law is utterly wrong. Like I said, that is not something I am well informed about.. I just throw it in for interests sake. The thing that really matters is that Apple didn't invent multi-touch, nor did they invent "pinch to zoom".
