RE: Report: 50M tablets to sell in 2014
dheady@... 8th Feb 2010
And yet again it seems the analysts and this community
just don't get it.
The iPad isn't a tablet computer in the same sense that a
tablet computer has Windows and keyboards, et al. The
fact that the iPad is a 'computer' is incidental to its use and
sales. It's not competing with anything currently on the
market.
The iPad is:
1. A web browsing device, simple and easy to use.
2. A sophisticated touch/turn gaming device.
3. A GPS device
4. A casual note taking device.
5. A thin client for a network.
6. A video viewing device.
7. An email access device.
8. Your DayTimer?
9. A mobile data entry device.
10. A device of many uses with 140,000 app installed base
the first day it goes on sale.

People will not be looking at the iPad as a tablet
'computer' even though technically it is also that. People
will be looking at a new way of doing what they are already
doing, but faster and with greater ease of use.
'We geeks' keep wanting to look under the hood, check the
carburetor, tinker with the seats instead of stepping back
and seeing how this is a paradigm shift in how we interact
and use intelligent devices. In not recognizing this sea
change we will fiddle with our 'table computer' iPad wanna
bes while the iPad simply changed things around us.
