Oracle gets away with it because they sell a mission-critical, irreplaceable, necessary product. The only time you hear about SAP in the news is with failed projects and stuff. Once you've bet your business on Oracle, you're going to pay them whatever they want. In the enterprise class, Oracle does things no other database except DB2 can do (and compared to IBM, Oracle's fees may be a bargain)...
