Why is my state collecting sales tax for money I'm spending at "stores" out of state? If I drive to another state and buy something, I pay the local sales tax which is because the store is required to pay tax on income from the sale not because I'm required to pay tax because I'm spending money. I'm losing money not gaining it. So why can't websites charge me their local sales tax and be done with it? Seems like that would create an incentive for state govt. to provide a business-friendly environment. More sales means more money coming into the state. Seems like the state gets to tax thye same money twice to me. Maybe I'm missing something, don't know.
