The reason for the price drop is that Panasonic has blown Samsung out of the water on quality of the final product. Normally Samsung is a top producer of technology. They flubbed this time around. The reviews of the 3D sets from Samsung all report flaws in the 3D picture. Panasonic got great reviews on 3D quality. Go figure.
Personally I'd wait for the next round of sets from Samsung (or the 2nd round from anybody for that matter...) Hardware 1.0 almost always stinks.
