But it seems that products are only a big deal on these blogs if they're doing well in the US market. Netbooks are exactly the right device to drive up PC adoption in the emerging markets. And when you contemplate the fact that emerging markets make up two thirds of the global population and have been key to growth in the PC industry over the last few years, it becomes clear that netbooks don't need the US market for the devices to succeed beyond expectations. In some emerging markets, netbooks have already become more popular than full sized laptops and prices are still falling. So much for the predictions of death for netbooks.
I agree with you about the pricing. In order for these new devices to become popular in developing countries, they need to be cost below $300 within the countries where they are to be sold. The sweet spot would be at around $200.
