I'm a little curious about the metric. Is this just hits to news sites? Does this include video streming data of the games? It would be interesting to see what the total volume of internet traffic was during these times (if that data is collected at all). As you say as of Friday afternoon and over the weekend many people would have reverted to traditional media for sports (i.e. TV) but the internet traffic may increase again Monday afternoon when the games are live during western hemisphere times.
