After living in Australia where there is a core health care tax based on income (and private insurance available at a fraction of the costs we have in the US) it's easy to see the benefit of taking health benefits out of the employment equation.

The reason? The companies I worked for "Down Under" never had to look at health benefit costs when budgeting for employment levels. In todays financial crisis, high unemployment and high health insurance costs the benefit costs faced today are a major factor in employment. Thus it is giong to continue to be a major factor in dragging economic recovery out longer than is necessary.

Obama didn't scratch the surface on changes in health care that will spur economic activity. He just plugged a few holes that were hemorrhaging.
