We made a research of how various intranet/collaboration solutions vendors tackle the security issues in their products and found an extremely intriguing paradox. Most of them provide only user authentication tools while referring to third-party software for extra security. Well, let's leave aside the fact this raises the solution TCO. It significantly complicates the system management, updates orchestration, reporting and monitoring and of course leads to the greater IT staff overheads.
I believe E2.0 vendors should pay more attention to integrating at least basic security features to their products to assure protection of the valuable intranet assets from the time it is up and running.
