I got an EVO not quite a month ago. I walked into a Radio Shack, asked if they had any - no, but we're getting one in tomorrow for a pre-order - and I asked if I could be put on a list. The guy wrote my number down on a Post-It, stuck it to the cash register, and the next day I got a call.
My wife loved my phone, and about 2 weeks ago I got on the waiting list at the same RS and the local Sprint store. I've read many horror stories in forums about not getting called, waiting lists being trashed, and people whining about how it doesn't stay in stock on the Sprint website, but yesterday I got a call from the Sprint store that an EVO was there for me, but they couldn't hold it more than a couple of hours. So I went on my lunch hour and had it activated, and now we're a 2-EVO family. While a RS salesman had an EVO awhile back, the Sprint store rep said they're not allowed to have them yet. "Maybe end of July," because they're serving customers first.
The phones are trickling in, but there's a lot of bitching online about it. That's because so many want it to be "just available," which would be great but just not possible now. But they also don't want to make an effort to GET it. If there's a real issue, it's with the policies at the stores like BB and RS that don't want to try and serve their customers by HELPING them get the phone. When you buy from BB or RS, you're not being a Sprint customer, you're being a BB or RS customer, and they should treat you right.
