@Mister Spock Microsoft is generally appallingly bad at marketing. Their Win7 campaign was surprisingly good - but with their mobile products, they don't sell directly - so they expect their partners to market. Their partners on the other hand don't consider the OS to be important and so generally don't market that as a feature...

So...

This is going to be ugly.

Microsoft needs to make their own branded phone - except - well, they did - the Kin - and they couldn't market that either. And the Zune - the Zune HD is an awesome media player - but it's only available in the US and there's 0 marketing on it.
