Wouldn't it be more beneficial to study the mesostructure itself and then attempt to artificially replicate that? This isn't so much biomimetic as it is like tracing a picture instead of freeform drawing. It just isn't very conducive to innovation. Also, hasn't the interferometric properties of butterfly wings already been well studied by companies like Qualcomm and utilized by their Mirasol interferometric modulator product?
