I think the computer industry should endeavor to have every business and every home have its own private cloud, and have this supplemented by public cloud offerings. I believe this would lead to significant growth of the server / services market, and would address everything from security to privacy concerns, and users would gain all the benefits that come from owning stuff - along with cost savings. The sales line would be so easy. "Own your own affordable cloud appliance! We'll even take care of it for you!"
Public clouds alone will only lead to decreasing amounts of money spent in the server / services market, as well as decreasing innovation.
