My thought for PDF files going forward - sandbox everything, no calls to external apps, no writing to local or remote storage. In other words, a "viewer" should only view and not create, call, modify, or do anything else to the system on which it's being used. The whole "portable document format" thing has gone way past humorous by now; none of us are laughing any more.
