Agree with the article and the excellent comments from others. An additional area to consider in this topic is that data models also matter here. There is public-release data, personally identifiable data, corporate proprietary data, and State secrets. All of those data types are not easily managed in the cloud. Understanding and separating your organizational data into the right buckets based on this simple sensitivity model is non-trivial and adds to the cost of operations. Not making an effort to separate significantly diminishes the ability to leverage CoIT in the right places.
