Apple DID make the first TabletPC -- Newton was developed since 1987

The released Apple Newton (1993) was huge 800g device, and it was the smallest of three developed size formats.

It was definitely first tablet PC (as well as the first actual PDA; tiny text screen keyboard products from 1990 notwithstanding).
