#sustainability: From my point of view as a Software Architect the biggest asset of Java is its community. The broad adaption of the development community is vital for any platform as w/o any great apps its a lost cause anyway. The community will watch this "heavy-weight" event closely I'd assume...
#competition: the laughing third could be Apple. From a technical perspective probably HTML5 as the next universal platform, maybe? Interesting times ahead...
