If you have a back end that uses secure HTML as a front end

then an iPad (or any other tablet with adequate HTML rendering) is perfect for that situation, and many others I can think of. Of course the hump is the cost of that back end, but in the case of a hospital that upfront cost would yield enough savings to make it worthwhile.
