@pmfjoe I am so with @pmfjoe on number 2. Having worked as a VAR and Managed Service Provider for a long time, a good consultant / service provider ensures that the customer implements a backup solution and employs a good backup strategy and data retention policy based on any industry regulation for that company or on customer need. Just to assume that all resellers and service providers are just moving boxes is a poorly researched and poorly thought out statement. Especially with a MSP, you may even go so far as to manage the backup solution entirely for the client short of actually changing the tapes. Two companies that I managed for even offer remote backup services to their MSP customer as an added layer of protection. So please don't bash the resellers Mr. Kusnetzk with uninformed statement like:
"Smaller organizations often do not have a technical staff and rely upon the help of resellers, solution providers and service providers. This, unfortunately, means that they don?t have an effective backup strategy nor do they have a data retention policy."
