Are there any views whether the "data protection" feature introduced in iOS4 will be fully functional on the iPad. I understand that data protection works on 3GS but not earlier versions, so wonder whether the iPad will support it as I gather there was a hardware requirement that was not in pre-3GS devices.

Also, could anyone help clarify another matter regarding the data protection feature. Am I right in saying that iOS 4 (or higher) has an API that provides developers with encryption/data protection functions that they can build into their app, and in fact Apple have already built this into their email client. However, the iOS4 data protection feature does not extend to the device generally, like full-disk encryption would, so data outside of apps using the API are not protected, eg. third-party apps, photos, Pages etc. Thanks!
