There seems to be a little too much disinformation floating around on this topic. The FCC has been trying to write rules to keep the net open just as it is. But the communications industry has bought off most of Congress and Congress, in turn, is threatening to clip the FCC's wings if they promulgate rules to keep the net open.
There is no need to worry about Obama or the net neutrality folks. They are the ones trying to keep things as they are. It is the communications industry that wants to stack the cards in their favor and allow preferential treatment for some internet traffic over others.
The sad thing is, most people don't know or care anything about this important topic. So, in the end, the industry is likely to prevail and everyone will pay higher prices for more limited and crippled services. It's sad.
