- why Oracle need Marc Hurd ?
- what kind of skills he has to go for this job ?
Just few ideas:
- Larry wants to help Mark ? No he is far more pragmatic to do this. Apparently seeing Ellison's letter to NYP, he went far to far comparing Hurd with Jobs. Jobs is a visionary person, icon, Apple synonym. Hurd is just a guy who rolls over past years through C-level.
- Hurd skills ? I saw analysts opinion about how it's great for Oracle .. hmmm... can someone point some milestones in Hurd's career ? What he achieved ? Being CEO of NCR ? Or HP ? What he did for Teradata ? Any brilliant strategy ?
No, unless I can see nothing like this. He is xls master with cost cutting skills. Does Oracle need cost cutting ?
Regarding Sun's acquisition yes and no. There is some part of doubled stuff but mostly in administration. Cost cutting in sales and r&d - it's a little bit dangerous unless Oracle would like to become Dell no 2. Btw cost cutting gives a short therm results in cash. In long therm Oracle will need a vision how to combine software and hardware and in this area Hurd has no experience. HP is weak in software and there is no total hw/sw combination. Teradata years ?? ... Rather not.
- there was comments that Hurd will help in HP take over. hmm I think fairy tales. For what reason Oracle would buy HP ? Hardware ? - apart of storage they have nothing spectacular. PCs ? - no. Software ? - no. Services ? - it's easier to buy Deloitte or Cap Gemini or Accenture. Perhaps Larry would like to be king of printing systems
But key question remains the same: what and why Hurd ..
