I hadn't considered the reality that the Google Instant feature would detract from my viewing of Google Ads...I hardly ever view them anyway--trained to look away from them.
Although this may hamper people looking at the ads, I wonder if it could possibly lead to more people using Google to search (because of the efficiency of searching...you know, how Google began), thus justifying this with having more people see the ads, even if for a more brief amount of time.
It's great to see an advancement in the search market. Just when we thought it could get no better...
To answer your question:
No, Google hasn't shot itself in the foot...maybe they grazed Microsoft in the thigh, but they haven't shot themselves...
