Too many choices
harishkumar09@... 12th Oct 2010
One of the disadvantages of open source software is the number of choices they offer the user. Take for example Filezilla, a FTP software. All I want to do is upload a file to my server or sometimes edit it. When I want to edit it, the number of options it throws at me is mind-blogging."Would you like to save the edited file?","Where do you want to save it? , in the hard disk or server?", 'What do you want to do with the old copy?" , "Do you want to replace that copy with this and continue editing?" --- I just go mad inspite of being a programmar myself ! Heck, all I want to do is correct a spelling mistake in a file I uploaded and I have to go through all the stuff!

What will kill the OpenSource Software movement is the bewildering array of choices it gives the user. This is inevitable because OS software is written by people who get an ego-trip by displaying their programming skills (that is the only compensation). In the process, they create so many choices, that the user goes mad with the choices.

I sometimes wish I paid $30 and bought a proprietory software which simply does what needs to be done instead of giving me choices.
