Google reducing supported codecs to reduce storage costs [makes] sense. What's confusing is its choice for video.
Not used by anyone, no hardware acceleration support and likely to be just as patent encumbered as H.264 without the easy, non-discrimatory licensing option.
Something must be going on behind the scenes, but what?
