Microsoft has NEVER open sourced anything that was popular. Good or bad, OPEN is not part of their business model. They rarely open source at all and situations they have I can only believe include rare times that a product became so crapped up or unpopular that without doing so it would leave the company with no product at all in a particular market...even then, they would only open it up enough to get the community to do the work for them and then would still demand some kind of dependence on another commercial MS product. I would defy anyone to find a situation this was not the case and found initial reports MS would open anything related to XBOX up for developers suspicious.
