This is the place where we at ZDNet will stream -- live! -- our TechLines event, "Big Data Debunked -- Finding the Data Signals." We'll be broadcasting beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 4. (Mark your calendars -- that's this week!)

    So there is this large community of research mathematicians in the functional programming world who are ideal for this kind of data processing and pattern recognition. For the most part they seem to be ignored. I think they would make great data scientists.

    Maybe the folks on this panel are looking in the wrong place.

  • Big Data

    I read several articles that say big data has a lot of obstacles. The largest is forming a data governance committee and normalizing the data across business units. This is a big task and fraught with political pitfalls.
