Telecity acquires Turkish datacentre company
Datacentre operator TelecityGroup has acquired SadeceHosting in a bid to capitalise on a growing Turkish hosting market.
"Turkey is one of the fastest growing digital economies in the world and SadeceHosting has played a major role in enabling this growth," said Michael Tobin, CEO of TelecityGroup, in a statement on Tuesday.
Tobin said that TelecityGroup will serve customers in the Turkish domestic market and international businesses looking to grow in the region.
Turkey is interesting because of its geographical position between Europe and Asia and the possibility of it becoming a major internet hub, according to Tech Market View IT analyst, Kate Hanaghan.
SadeceHosting delivers a range of datacentre and hosting services from its 1MW datacentre in Turkey, which has the potential to double in size to 2MW. The datacentre company is a key player in Turkey's datacentre and hosted services market, according to Hanaghan.
"Combining our business with Europe’s leading provider of datacentres will be a great boost and will help us take advantage of the booming demand for hosting and data centre services in Turkey and beyond," Selçuk Saraç, CEO of SadeceHosting and future MD of TelecityGroup's Turkish operation, said in a statement on Tuesday.
UK-based TelecityGroup also has datacentres in London, Manchester, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Dublin, Helsinki and Milan.
The European datacentre provider is in the process of adding an extra 50MW of capacity across its datacentres, giving it a total capacity of 135MW. Tobin told ZDNet in February that the expansion will cost TelecityGroup £7.5m for every MW added.
