Telstra announced today that it will no longer charge to unlock iPhone handsets from its network.

In a post on the Telstra Exchange blog today, Telstra said that it wanted to "better serve customers".

"One way to do this is to no longer charge customers a fee for unlocking an Apple iPhone they purchased from us," the blog said.

The unlock can be executed free of charge; however, all iPhones sold by Telstra will still come network-locked out of the box.

Telstra had previously charged $150 for unlocking an iPhone, driving many users to "jailbreak" their handsets.

Customers can gather their phone's 15-digit IMEI number, iPhone serial number and account details and call 1800 IPHONE to complete the process.
