Tiger Woods and his SMS

Now that the dust has died down, and just about any woman within clawing distance of Tiger Woods has emerged from the woodwork (no pun intended), I will add my commentary from the Tech-Legal perspective.

It seems that the straw that broke the camel's back was an exchange of SMSes that took place, and were discovered when Tiger left his mobile phone behind.

Now some would say that the messages between Tiger and his alleged fellow-SMSer were private, but privacy concerns usually disappear when you have a woman charging toward you with a 4-iron.

Privacy concerns would also carry no weight if transactions were carried out between two individuals trying to operate outside a private marriage relationship.

But that's not it. What strikes me is the constant assumption that people can feel secure using technology. The ease in which technology devices are used (and we call them "personal devices") may leave one with the mistaken notion that everything is kept personal--private and confidential.

Woods found out that was not true. He is not the first nor will he be the last. We all have our little stories to tell and it is up to your imagination before the next big boo-boo turns up.
