Asia-Pacific logistics services provider Toll Group has signed Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) up to give its IT data storage infrastructure a makeover.

Toll has over 45,000 staff members across 50 countries. Acquisitions made in past years have complicated its storage infrastructure, which is spread out and putting pressure on the company's legacy IT systems. This has subsequently affected application performance.

Toll picked up Hitachi Visual Storage Platform, Hitachi Command Suite, and Hitachi NAS Platform, implementing the offerings in its datacentre.

"This has been one of those rare projects where you set out to do something and achieve it in a set time frame, on budget, and without major issues," Toll head of infrastructure, development and implementation, global information systems, David Hyland said in a statement.

Toll has reported a significant performance boost after the HDS rollout.

"In one instance, backup elapsed time had reduced from 12 hours to 4," Hyland said.

The logistics company hopes the new IT storage asset will support Toll's growth over the next five years.
