Definition: clipboard
A reserved section of memory that is used as a temporary, behind-the-scenes staging area for data that are copied or moved from one application to another using the copy and paste (duplicate) and cut and paste (move) menu functions. Each time data are transferred into the clipboard, the previous contents of the clipboard are deleted. Although there are clipboard viewers available for examining the clipboard's current contents, they are seldom used. See copy and paste and cut and paste.
