Definition: CodePlex
A Web site that hosts projects developed by the open source community at large with support from Microsoft. The software projects deal with Windows, often involving the .NET environment, as well as interoperability with Microsoft products and applications. Introduced in 2006, by 2010 there were more than 13,000 projects on the site. In late 2009, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) criticized CodePlex, claiming that it does not endorse the greater freedoms extolled by the FSF. For more information, visit www.codeplex.com. See open source and Free Software Foundation.
