Definition: firmware update
Changing the software in a non-volatile memory chip. Firmware updates are not frequent but sometimes necessary, and they can be performed by the user. In many cases, the firmware in a product was never intended to be changed, and the update process can be a bit tedious. If the firmware was designed for periodic updates, the installation of the revised software may be simple. See firmware, flash BIOS and FOTA.
