Definition: HP TouchPad
A tablet computer from HP that uses the webOS operating system, which is also used in Palm smartphones. Introduced in July 2011, the 9.7" tablet with a 1024x768 resolution includes a Webcam for video calling, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular GPS (A-GPS) and a display stand that uses Palm's wireless Touchstone system to charge the unit. Applications are downloaded from the Palm App Catalog. Seven weeks after its introduction, HP discontinued the TouchPad due to slow sales. As the price of the TouchPad was dramatically reduced around the world, units flew off the shelves. Within a couple months, HP began to offer tablets running Windows 7, not webOS. See webOS and tablet computer.
The TouchPad Tablet
Loaded with features users expect in a multitouch tablet, HP's TouchPad was launched in the summer of 2011. The display stand, which turns the tablet into a video player, a digital picture frame or a laptop computer (with optional keyboard), is also the charging station.
