Definition: JBoss
A popular open source application server that is available from the open source community (www.jboss.org) or as a commercial product from Red Hat, which acquired JBoss, Inc. in 2006. The Red Hat version (www.jboss.com) is part of Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Middleware (JEM) family, which is Java EE compliant. In addition to the application server, JEM includes platforms for service-oriented-architecture (SOA), portals and system management. It also includes O-R mapping (JBoss Hibernate), business process management (JBoss JBPM) and a rules engine (JBoss Rules).
