An extra-small SD flash memory card introduced in 2005. Widely used in smartphones and other handheld devices, the microSD is electrically and software compatible with the full-size SD card. In the past, SanDisk referred to microSD as TransFlash (T-Flash). See SD Card and gruvi card.
The Smartphone Slot
The small microSD format is ideal for smartphones and other thin devices. This is the tiny microSD slot in an Android phone with the back of the case removed.
MicroSD Adapters
With adapters, microSD cards can plug into larger SD slots, as well as USB, for data transfer to and from a computer.
