Definition: Palm Pre
A smartphone from Palm that was introduced in 2009 in an exclusive arrangement with Sprint in the U.S. Following the huge success of the iPhone, Palm introduced the Pre with similar as well as additional features found on the iPhone. For example, the Pre has a physical keyboard that slides out from the bottom, and it is able to multitask applications, a feature sorely lacking on the iPhone no matter how many users complain about it. If the phone is stolen, owners can erase their data remotely. In addition, the Pre simply rests on an inductive charger without having to "plug it in." See Palm, webOS and wireless energy transfer.
Palm's iPhone Alternative
The Palm Pre is resting on its inductive charger. For existing Palm and Sprint users, Palm definitely created a Palm alternative to the iPhone with the Pre. It has many of the iPhone's features and then some. At introduction, it lacked the enormous number of apps available for the iPhone, but many people need only a few apps to make a smartphone very useful.
