Definition: registration
Identifying oneself online. Various Web sites offer free news, information and other services, but require answers to several questions in return. As a result, the publisher of the site is able to derive demographics about its audience in order to target ads and services that make the site profitable. Registration also makes logging into the site faster for subsequent visits and may enable the site to tailor its results to the user.
