Definition: Sandy Bridge
The second microarchitecture used in Intel's Core i family of CPU chips, introduced in 2011 and superseding Nehalem. Major features of Sandy Bridge, which Intel calls the 2nd Generation Core family, are an integrated GPU on the same die as the CPU, advanced floating point instructions and a remote kill switch that erases the hard drive via a cellular connection in the event of theft.
