Definition: server platform
A family of servers that includes the hardware and operating system. For example, the Windows server platform refers to x86 CPUs and some server version of Windows such as Windows Server 2003. However, the term "Linux platform" is somewhat ambiguous. Although most Linux servers are x86 based, Linux runs on nearly every hardware platform. Contrast with client platform. See platform, server, Windows and Linux.
