An umbrella term for reaching out and sharing information with friends, family and colleagues on social networking sites such as Facebook (www.facebook.com), Twitter (www.twitter.com) and LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com), as well as social bookmarking sites such as Digg (www.digg.com), Delicious (www.delicious.com) and StumbleUpon (www.stumbleupon.com). Social sites are fed information not only by original postings but also from direct links on Web sites (see sharing buttons). See social networking site and social bookmarking.
