Definition: string
A set of contiguous alphanumeric characters. Although a string may include numeric digits, the numeric values are not used for calculations. Essentially, a string is one or more words; for example, field titles ("name," "address," "city," "state," etc.) and error messages ("Program ended abnormally.") are examples. Contrast with numeric data. See string literal.
