Definition: Tablet PC

A tablet computer that runs Windows. Introduced when Windows XP was the current version, the Tablet PC was designed to function like a portable writing tablet. It includes handwriting recognition, which converts the characters to text, as well as the ability to retain handwritten words and annotations as graphics that are not converted to text.

Various Windows tablets have come and gone; however, Windows 8 is expected to make its mark in this product category (see Windows 8). See tablet computer and Ultra-Mobile PC.
