Definition: Ultrabook
Intel's branding for an ultrathin subnotebook computer that uses Intel CPUs and the Windows operating system. Introduced in 2011, Ultrabooks are expected to have significant impact when Windows 8 debuts, which enables traditional keyboard-mouse and new touch-screen applications to run side-by-side.

In 2008, Sony introduced ultra-thin Windows notebooks with solid state drives that were in the same weight and size category as the Ultrabook, introduced three years later. Also that year, the MacBook Air was launched; the lightest, thinnest laptop from Apple. See subnotebook and tablet computer.
