Introduced in 2011, Ultrabooks are expected to have significant impact when Windows 8 debuts, which enables traditional keyboard-mouse and new touch-screen applications to run side-by-side.

Thin and Light a Few Years Prior
In 2008, Sony introduced ultra-thin Windows notebooks with solid state drives that were in the same weight and size category as the Ultrabook, introduced three years later.
