Toshiba has launched MC04ACA series, hard disk drives designed to cater for the enterprise.
The Japanese tech giant announced the MC04ACA product range on Thursday, saying that the HDD range is designed for servers dealing with cloud-based apps and data workloads.
The 3.5-inch MC04ACA series delivers up to 5TB of storage with 7,200 rotations per minute (RPM) performance. The MC04ACA series is available in 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, and 5TB capacities and supports 1TB per platter areal density. Toshiba says that with up to 5TB storage capacity per host connection, capacity per SATA port is improved and will enable fewer disks to handle the same storage capacity, reducing power and cooling costs per TB. The new series also boasts 6Gbit/s SATA interface speeds.
The Japanese market will be the first to receive the HDD range, and shipment will start from the end of May.
Earlier this month, Toshiba forecast a rise in operating profit by as much as 14 percent as its flash memory chip manufacturing grows. The Japanese electronics giant is predicting operating income of about $3.2 billion, and the increase is laid at the feet of chips designed for mobile devices and a rise in demand for consumer appliances.
