Treppenwitz or perhaps more correctly ‘l’esprit de l’escalier’ is the expression for when you think of the perfect thing to say, but long after the moment you should have said it. In this series of blogs I given myself a second chance to comment or correct topics I’ve covered this year.

June

Africa and LTE #1: Inbound Roamers (or tourists to you and me)

Africa and LTE #2: Leapfrogging Fixed Broadband

In June, I turned to the subject of LTE, and how it might impact developing economies. The GSMA considered the same subject in its LTE report from November, and had this to say:

In developing economies, operators have noted that LTE users can generate ARPU seven to 20 times greater than non-LTE users. In developed markets, operators have found that LTE can generate an ARPU uplift ranging from 10 per cent to 40 per cent.

Just as developing marketings leapfrogged to mobile technology (skipping PCs in general) and mobile payments (missing out branch-based banking), many subscribers' first data plan will be a 4G one.
