Amazon is looking to employ graduates at its Digital Media Development Centre in London for the first time.
The company said on Wednesday that it is looking to recruit a further 100 people at the London centre this year to develop digital media services for a wide range of devices for Amazon and its subsidiaries, which include LoveFilm and Pushbutton.
"Initially we started off by recruiting people who had huge amounts of experience. This time round we're also extending the remit to recruit graduates out of college," said Paula Byrne, managing director of the London centre. "We're very keen to bring in bright graduates and have them working alongside people who have a lot more experience so they can build a really exciting career in technology development."
However, Byrne could not confirm how many of the 100 positions it will fill this year - which include software development engineers, user-interface experts, and graphics designers - are likely to be graduate roles.
Amazon is looking for candidates with a strong computer science background and, more specifically, software development engineering skills, according to Byrne. The company is particularly interested in people who can combine their technology skills with a creative vision, she added.
The centre's location - on the outskirts of the area of London known as Tech City - will aid Amazon's recruitment process, Byrne said. "We feel that part of London is a great place to recruit from. It's a good vibe and a good area, for the people we want to recruit, with a mixture of technology and creative," she said.
The 100 workers to be recruited this year will join the centre's existing 100 staff taken on when it opened its doors on September 13 last year.
"We've got a long shopping list of services we're building for and the growth has been pretty phenomenal throughout this past year, so we're on a bit of a trajectory at the moment," said Byrne.
