Navigating Hotel Rooms

These things need to come with interactive instructions. Particularly hotel showers.

One thing I dread when traveling, like anyone staying at the Bates Motel, is the shower.

Picture this: you wake up jet lagged, with no idea where you are in the world. Once you identify you’re in a hotel, and possibly remember the city where it’s located, you shuffle to the bathroom for a shower, whereupon you’re faced with this:

Shower

It’s like a pop quiz. Do you twist, pull, push, or lift? Is there a ‘hidden’ button somewhere that needs to be activated as well?

Whilst some hotels give you a guided tour of the room (this is the TV, this is the window, etc.), they never tell you the things you really need, like how to set the alarm and operate the shower.

If only there was an app for that.

Well, now there is! That is, if you’re lucky enough to be on a Norwegian Cruise Line. It’s called Norwegian iConcierge, and it gives you all the information you need to know about your room, the cruise, activities, etc.

I hope this is a new travel and hospitality industry bandwagon, and I hope hotels get on it.

And for anyone wondering about the shower operation: very simple. You pull the handle out (even though it feels like it is about to snap off), then push the button that is just out of shot, and then turn back and forth until you get warm water. Easy!

The Krypton Factor’s intelligence round was simpler than this. Who designs these things?!
